Cannon - Hole 9

169 157 149 144

Gents

Par 3 Si 17 Ladies Par 3 Si 15

A short par 3 and most definitely the signature hole here at St Annes Old Links. To give yourself the best chance take aim towards the flagpole, just to the right of the Clubhouse.

The green is in a bowl protected on both sides by large mounds, which frequently kick wayward tee shots back onto the green. What you cannot see are all of the 8 bunkers that protect the front and sides, so long is certainly the best option. This green is very long and narrow has a very subtle break from left to right, and putts have been known to roll on and into the right hand bunker ruining a good outward 9

Professional's tip

The prevailing wind from behind and left can easily catch your ball if hit to high and deposit it over the left hand mound making for a blind pitch back. Better to take an extra club and play a lower shot if possible and minimise the effects of the wind on your tee shot
