This first hole is a straightforward par 4, offering a good chance of getting your round off to a sound start. Your first drive should be aimed between the two small mounds that flank the fairway, where a small fairway bunker on the right is the only real danger.

From the centre of the fairway a lofted club will allow your ball to pitch short and run onto this traditional flat links green - take care however to avoid the steep faced bunkers guarding the front of the green as getting up and down is not easy and could ruin your start.

Professional's tip

Because links greens are generally fast and firm the tactic of playing bump and run shots is widely used and can definitely reap dividends if properly employed.
